Call For Entry for SAQA VA/NC Region

"Bending the Rules", 2012 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival by Mancuso Show Management at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Va.

“Bending the Rules”, the opportunity to assert your independence from traditional rules of quilting is here at last!  Why make a circle if you can make an ellipse? Why draw a straight line if you can make it have (just a tiny) squiggle? Why create artwork that ends at the borders?  Explore, consider a new approach, experiment, and be unique as you create an art quilt with ingenuity. Why not bend the rules and let your imagination run free!

Quilt Art:International Expressions

Friday, January 28, 2011 - Sunday, April 24, 2011
Members Preview: Friday, February 4, 2011

*Quilt Art: International Expressions was organized by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C., in conjunction with Quilt Art.
This exhibition features 35 contemporary quilts by the members of Quilt Art, an international group of 22 quiltmaking artists. The group has exhibited in Japan, Canada and across Europe, making Quilt Art: International Expressions here at the Taubman the premier exhibition in the United States. The artists are highly informed about traditional quilting techniques and practices; however these quilts are the result of conscious decisions made to develop new modes of working with cloth. Each artist has been influenced by her unique background of artistic experience, method and nationality and these differences are celebrated in the diversity of the quilts. While some artists work to control each step of the process by making and dying their own fabric, others embrace improvisation, spontaneity, and chance. The artists here are pioneers, breaking boundaries in their medium as well as social conventions of craft and women’s work
